Do you want a 6 to 8 week summer experience that you will remember for the rest of your life?

Here's how it works for 15 to 18.5 year old students in the Jim Thorpe Area School District, including Carbon Career and Technical Institute:  After your application is accepted, you will be matched with a family in one of 24 countries (hopefully one of your three choices).  You will spend 3 to 4 weeks with them, then their student, about your same age, will come and live with you and your family for 3 to 4 weeks (or the reverse).

Language?  Chances are someone in your host family will know some English or you may have some understanding of theirs, but you will soon catch on.

Cost?  An airline ticket, of course, then international health insurance ($76), an application fee ($125) to the international manager, ESSEX, another fee to our Rotary District 7410 for another $125, a passport ($105-$135), and any personal spending money. On this end, you will be expected to feed your student gender double, provide a bed (but not necessarily in a separate room) (i.e. "three hots and a cot"), and introduce them to their adopted environment.

Get more details by "Contacting Us" or call Bob Stevenson at 570 325-2346 but we need to hear from you by Demember 15 so we can insure your application is complete, interview you and your family at your home, and send your applcation in in hopes you get one of your top three countries.  Once "in the program," you will be invited to a Rotary district-wide orientation on a Saturday in April.  Additional information is also available at the guidance offices at Jim Thorpe Area High School and at CCTI.

Are you game to go abroad this coming summer?
